  35. With versions of the OS before 2.1 Commodore supplied text-to-speech
  36. software on the Workbench discs. This library replaces the Commodore
  37. supplied translator library. The origional translates text to phonemes
  38. for use with the narrator device. It is used in software with speech
  39. output such as "Say" and "Term".
  40.  
  41. Unfortunately for non-American users the origional library translates
  42. all text as if it were American English. It can not handle other
  43. languages or dialects.

  45. This library is a drop-in replacement and works with all software that
  46. currently uses the Commodore speech system.  With this version of
  47. translator library (version 42.0) the user can specify which language
  48. the translator should use.  The following languages/dialects/accents
  49. are supported by this library:

  52.     American
  53.     Italiano
  54.     Cymraeg
  55.     Maori
  56.     Suomi
  57.  
  58. Not all useful I know. However it is not difficult to write
  59. translation files for other languages with the exception of languages
  60. like English and French which have more exceptions than most.  I hope
  61. that users of this system will be motivated to create accent
  62. description files for the language(s) they speak.

  65. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
  66.  
  67. Requires any version of the OS greater than 1.3.  Some features are
  68. not supported on pre-2.04 systems and systems without the locale
  69. library.

  71. To be of any practical use it requires any version of the narrator
  72. device and software that talks.
